Boy ... Girl ... ?

» Ambiguously Gendered

Observation heard at a local convenience store yesterday:

“You can’t tell the boys from the girls nowadays!”

They were talking about a young woman whose closely fitting t-shirt and jeans didn’t leave me in any doubt about her gender. My guess is that she worked in construction, plumbing or the like.

This was an old clichι back in the days of hippies when boys wore (wonderfully) long hair. I remember many happy instances of gender confusion where I didn’t know the sex of the person until they were close.

Seems funny but sad to still hear people saying this so many years later.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Boy ... Girl ... ?. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
