Voice and Motion
» Ambiguously Gendered
I just finished a biography of Augustus.
Cleopatra’s romances with Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony were naturally part of the narrative.
It was said that she wasn’t an exceptional experience visually. But in her manner of speaking and moving men found themselves helplessly enamored.
That quality of speech I’ve known only once really. Sadly I was not favored with that person’s passion. That didn’t make the power of sweetly enunciated syllables less vivid to read about.
That special way of moving I’ve witnessed and enjoyed many times. That and not the surface sheen is the power of androgyny.
Though I don’t see myself enjoying either ever again I’m so happy to have in the past.
