A few weeks back it hit me that Muriel Spark was prose was actually poetry. While that seemed fit and apt I wasn’t really sure what I meant. Near the end of Curriculum Vitae, her memoirs, she said that she is predominately a poet.
Perhaps in my muddy way I was right. Not that I meant as the naïve might assume ‘pretty’ prose. She never committed that sin.
