So many gay movies are badly scripted, ineptly acted and poorly shot that perhaps ones that aren’t make a better impression than they should.
Boy Culture ultimately is a romantic comedy with all the implausibility necessary for the happy ending.
The film worked for me because I felt it captured how often any of us can be victims of compulsions that mar our romantic lives.
Sometimes those biases are invisible. More mysteriously - sadly - we can be fully aware of our inner limitations and unable to break away from them. We fear doing the right thing, perhaps because we’re addicted to the source of our unhappiness. Or simply because simply abolishing a pattern seems inherently hard in itself.
The acting and production quality in Boy Culture is fine. Patrick Bauchau, as always, is a pleasure to watch.
