Mr. Gay Stereotype
» Imagery

When I downloaded him my impression was that this mincing, flower-sniffing fellow was an early gay stereotype. Though me may have been an image of late 19th century aestheticism, one of the decadents. Given Lionel Johnson and St. Oscar the link between the aesthetes and queer men persists.
For a few years I've been searching for early images of gay men, even invidious depictions. Way back when there must've been a passel of them. Hidden buried in editorial and magazine cartoons, finding and collating them would be a worthy project for some young archivist.
Ah well I think I'll be off to mince and smell the roses.
