Jazz singing with a Southern accent

Woody Herman is one of jazz’s underappreciated singers. Best at the beginning and end of his career when he let is Southern accent come through. During his most popular period as a bandleader his accent was neutral removing much of the charm.
Similarly Diana Shore was actually an enjoyable singer at the beginning. When she eliminated her accent her singing became too middle-of-the-road to be interesting.
