About the last election (reluctantly)
» Sodomitical Polity
I like to describe myself as a political agnostic. Partly from the clichéd complaints that most people in public life serve vested interests; their main goal is merely to get reelected. Admittedly daring and imaginative politicians would be terrifying.
Mostly to avoid conversations about electoral politics. Too often they descend into the fatuous. Possibly the best example, in a book rather than a conversation was when T.H. White in one of his “Making of the President” books compared LBJ and Barry Goldwater to Aristotle and Plato.
Since the Republicans triple-crown victory I’ve been shying away from Slate, The New York Times and Washington Post websites. So I’m more distressed by the election than I’d like to think. My politics in a nutshell: leave me alone, leave everybody alone and give poor people money for food, shelter and medical care. Nothing we can expect from Bush-Cheney-Ashcroft.
