An organization with a name like Home School Legal Defense Alliance (HSLDA) has to be high-class and honest doesn't it? For my happily un-American readers Home Schooling is a movement that allows you to keep your child out of public school so that you can teach the child that the big bang theory was invented by Satan (that wasn't a joke).
Anyway these masterminds conducted a poll among 800 of my fellow Americans:
Asked “shall have all the same benefits, protections and responsibilities under law as are granted to spouses in a marriage” 50% percent of the respondents said no.
Phrased as “all of the same rights [as] married couples” 62% said no.
I used to do survey research while Hunt Wesson tries to insure their questionnaires will really let them know what you think of Orville Redenbacher's popcorn the publicly released political polls are constructed more tendentiously hoping to grab headlines or scare a few politicos.
Michael Farris who runs the HSLDA calls Republican support of civil unions "worst form of appeasement since Neville Chamberlain."
As the article I'm quoting makes clear such polls results vary consierably by who is paying for them: Poll: Republicans should oppose civil unions
